Dr. Gerard has been involved in the teaching of nuclear medicine for the past 30 years. He has a series of lectures for all topics in nuclear medicine as well as hundreds of cases for nuclear medicine board review. The residents he teaches have a very high pass rate on the nuclear section of the radiology boards (see the testimonial section for details). His former “Hot Seat” Board Review has been revamped and adapted for the “New” American Board of Radiology (ABR) Qualifying Core Examination (see “Tackle The Core” Board Review page for details). He offers personalized board review sessions to help teach nuclear medicine concepts with easy to understand teaching methods.
Dr. Gerard’s series of board review lectures include: Understanding how to recognize specific types of nuclear studies and evaluation of whole body images, understanding the various imaging agents, nuclear protocols, nuclear medicine differential diagnosis, false positives and false negatives, radiology board psychology, lab test evaluation in the nuclear patient, nuclear pharmacologic intervention and drugs that interfere with studies, evaluating nuclear cine studies, pediatric nuclear medicine, nuclear medicine treatments, nuclear medicine quality control and artifacts, mechanisms of uptake and excretion, radiopharmaceutical production, use of SPECT and delayed imaging, mnemonics etc.
Dr. Gerard emphasizes the current NRC regulations which include: ALARA, the safe handling of radioactive materials, quality control procedures, ordering, unpacking and receiving radioactive materials, limits for radiation exposure, dose and equipment calibration, how to handle major and minor radioactive spills, medical events, nuclear medicine generators and eluting a generator, nuclear medicine treatments, pregnancy and breast feeding, disposal and storage of byproduct materials and how to handle a wide variety of nuclear medicine scenarios (currently presented on the radiology oral board examination). He has presented exhibits on NRC concepts at several ARRS, RSNA and SNMMI annual meetings.
Dr. Gerard teaches at most of the major medical centers in the Tri-state area, New Jersey, Conneticut and many out of state institutions. Many of the radiology residents have attended his Nuclear Medicine “Tackle The Core” Nuclear Medicine Board Review Course, designed for the New ABR Core Examination. He also runs “intensive review sessions” for those who have conditioned the nuclear medicine section of the oral radiology board examination.
Dr.Gerard also recently taught 8 residents from New Orleans who were devastated by “Hurracaine Katrina” for the nuclear section of the oral radiology boards in 2006. He instructed them “Pro Bono” with a 100 % pass rate. The residents were from Louisiana State University and Tulane University Radiology Residency Programs.
Dr. Gerard is available to teach at your institution, anywhere in the U.S (Schedule permitting). His unique utilization of creative medical teaching will help you gain a strong understanding of Nuclear Medicine. Please contact him at: docnucs@yahoo.com
